Hacker Has Duplicated the non-fungible Token of Beeple’s Pictire for $69 Million

The hacker, alias Monsieur Personne, claims that he was able to create fake copies of the non-fungible token (NFT) of the Everydays: The First 5000 Days picture, which was created by the artist Beeple. In early March, this NFT token was sold by the auction house Christie’s for a record $ 69.3 million. The author of the fake tokens claims that he wanted to show the unreliability of the NFT technology. The replica NFTs fail to provide proof of ownership of the auctioned picture, however they are almost identical to their original and were even created by the same wallet.

The hacker claims that the original creator of NFT can only make a verbal promise not to issue the same tokens again, but in fact he can issue as many new tokens as he wants. Monsieur Personne is selling nine copies of the fake token and is also planning to give away the very first fake NFT to their buyers.

NFT tokens are unique and not divisible. Such a token is used to confirm ownership of an object and it cannot be replaced without the consent of the owner.
